Hello everyone! Me again with another question for you all. :D

Ok, so I've finally figured out how to geneticize skintones on my own (whoot!). The thing is, with all the skintone sets I geneticized...the dark skintone always looked bad. I don't know why, but all the other skintones looked amazing...yet the dark skintone looked horrible; it was either too muddy-looking, or was too dark around the eye area. It sucks that I have geneticized 3 skintone sets, but with each one I have to delete the darkest one because they look so different/nothing like in the pictures. :(

So my question is...what skintone set could you recommend to me that has a decent-looking dark skintone?

I currently use the Louis defaults by nihilin (with a lovely dark skintone. :D) but I also geneticized buffybot's September skintones (deleted the darkest one), Ephemera's  SimpleSkin Soft Edition (deleted the darkest one. D:) and the Idolatry of Flesh blended skintone by buffybot (yet again, deleted the dark).

I just want more variety in my darker sims. It's not cool just having one basic dark skintone while having 4 pale, medium and tan ones. e_e;;

How do you geneticize skintones?!

I use the Wardrobe Wrangler from DJ Sims. It's so easy, it makes me weep with happiness since I can't use SimPE. :D

The website is: http://www.djssims.com/index.php?category=1&subcat=5

A link to the program should be on the bottom of the page. Once you install the program, there's a nifty pdf manual that tells you how to do it.

I love the Diva Fidelia skins http://www.insimadult.net/showthread.php?p=408247#post408247 - anatomically correct, and not anatomically dorrect here: http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=56012 both normal and defaults. Although the faces on the Eve skins might not be to everyone's liking.. Also, Mouseyblue's skins are amazing, but I'm not sure they're not too pretty. Mouseyblue's are here: http://gardenofshadows.digitalperversion.net/index.php?topic=175.0 It's not for all ages, but if you scroll along, at the bottom of page 4 of the comments is a link to the All-ages-version :) These are not defaults, though. Someone should geneticize them... Thought you might wanna see these, IF you haven't already. The dark ones aren't extremely dark, but they're the best darks I've seen (been having the same problem as you..)

I like the dark skins of Ren's Circonflex set. I like them much better than the paler ones which I find too yellow and kind of give sim an "Asian" look (though that makes them perfect for custom BV locals).

I think the problem with having a decent video card is that you see all the crappy work in things LOL. I've deleted quite a few things because of crappy looking pixellation.

Yeah, I guess so. The computer I play the Sims on is fairly new and has a really good graphics card, so I see many more flaws than I used to. :/

It stinks because so many look beautiful in pictures, but in the game...they look so bad. :( One of the skintones I listed in my OP had this weird two-tone thing (head was darker than body) going on that made me so mad. x.x

Rensims's Freshie Dark is still the best 'dark' out there, with her Circonflex coming a close second. Both are anatomically correct but they're not silly or obscene.

Oh, I like the Freshie Dark skintone, but I can't figure out how to get it without having to donate. x.x

Renssim has made her donation files available to all, just go to her site and follow the instructions.

While I currently use the skins from Ren's Circonflex set, I have a major soft spot for many of Enayla's Pixie skins too. A lot of people find Enayla skins too shiny, though - mind you, her Pixie skins are far less shiny than her original skins...

I love the original Idolatry of flesh skintones from MTS2
Jan. 26th, 2008 05:56 pm (UTC)
I second the vote for Enayla's dark skins. They have more 'details' on them than some people like (moles, etc), but they actually look like dark skin, not too ashy/muddy/whatever.

Enayla's got the best darks. I'm starting to get frustrated finding good quality dark skins, too.

I only kept the dark out of the idolatry of flesh, but the eye area around the face IS horrible. I've been getting around that with various eye shadows, but I may futz around with the face sometime. I have a feeling that'll mangle the quality of the textures, though--which are already only about so-so--and not help too much in the end. I notice the arms are kinda splotchy now and again.

Thank you for the suggestions, guys! I geneticized 6 of Enayla's Pixie skintones, Rensim's Circonflex v2 (I wanted the freshie dark SO bad. x.x), the extra Louis #7 skintones from Nihilin and...some other one xD

I'm still looking for more suggestions! :D *geneticizing FIEND*

Freshie are in the booty, or they are file share friendly. Rensims is my favorite skintone maker so I always highly recommend them.

Thank you so much! ^^

And here I am with only Enayla skins geneticized...xDDD
Jan. 27th, 2008 12:03 am (UTC)
That's no fun! A lot of Enayla's skintones are very similar, so I get just one. Plus, some are just TOO pretty. x.x I don't want my guys looking too feminine. :)

I like the "ebony" skin from Lyran, but that might not be your style.
