Hello there everyone, hopefully someone can help me out here. I've searched through the memories and I cannot find out anything as to why my sims 2 game would just stop working all of a sudden. I have all eps and sps...

What happens is I double click on the sims 2 apartment life icon, then the launcher comes up -- when I hit Play -- it starts to go, then it just stops completely. Very confused, and as always -- any help would be tremendous and appreciated.

Try deleting your cache files. Try bypassing the launcher too, and load straight from the exe file.

I'm sorry, I'm totally ignorant when it comes to either of these.

Bypassing the launcher. Says it's for BV, but should work for AL, just go to the right spot: http://community.livejournal.com/thesims2/4385866.html

Thank you very much, I have bookmarked this in my favorites just in case this ever happens again. I just deleted my cache and it started up fine.

I was really worried there for a minute (i'm a sim story-teller). So yeah. Thanks a lot again.

No problem, deleting the caches is a very common solution to the 'my game isn't running' problem.

Very common = at least asked once a day? ;P

I'm a late commenter and your problem got fixed with deleting the cache file but I found that deleting the cache as well as accessory.cache, cigen.package and contentregistry (all in the same folder as the cache) helps making the launcher start up. All of those get bigger and bigger as you play your game and cleaning those out makes the game start fresh/smaller without losing anything important.

Even just using Bodyshop and not actually playing adds up to those files quite rapidly.

I understand what the .cache files are but what IS the cigen.package file?

I've been deleting the .cache's forever but I've always been leery of the cigen.

I don't know exactly what it is but everywhere I've seen this kind of problem show up, all answers say to delete all those files and the game would start again. *shrugs*

cigen.package contains the little preview pictures for Body Shop. ;)

Ahhh, thanks.

So the game will just make a new one if you delete it every time?

Yup, exactly. I always delete it if I try a new set of face templates, for example. It will regenerate the next time you open up Body Shop and create a new sim.

Hmm, I wonder if it was the cause of a random body shop crash I had the other day. . .

I'll be deleting that sucker every time now.

Anyone know how to fix this same kind of problem on a Mac?

It should be the same answer, unless the same issue isn't your problem. Meaning that something else is keeping it from starting, but before you go looking into any other reason, do exactly like has been listed here. Delete .cache files.
