Antique Camera

I cant get my SIM to take a picture.  I instruct one SIM to pose, and then instruct another to take a NORMAL portrait picture, but then the camera icon flashes once and disappears, so my SIM never ends up taking any picture.  I get no green frame or am able to press C.  What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like it might be a jump bug. Take out your Downloads folder and see if it persists.

And you don't have to put Sim in all-caps.

And don't forget to respond to comments this time so that we know that you're getting our feedback.

Take it out of my Downloads folder? Where do I put it then?
I dont know what it is, but everyone is so bossy in this journal. Ive never felt more unwelcome in a community. Im learning the ropes of using the livejournal. Cut me some slack. Jeesh!!

I don't think anyone is trying to be bossy. It's considered 'net courtesy to respond to posts, just so the other people can know you're actually getting what they wrote and to thank them, even without saying 'thank you'.

Really, I think it's just the 'tone' of the internet that's causing you to read it as hostility or bossyness.

I know. Sometimes I have a hard time deciphering emotion in text. I really do appreciate all the help. Thank you.

No, take out your whole Downloads folder, from your game folders. This will let you know whether or not it's a conflict with any custom content you've installed.

Think about it. We all are here because we play a game in which we tell digital people what to do! The reason we tell you what to do is because that's what is accepted by most people — we're helping you learn! But in the case of especially this community, it's better to learn how to behave by observation, not experience.

Put it wherever the hell you like. I put mine on my desktop during those instances.

I don't know why you would feel unwelcome in this community. I've always found it extremely supportive, friendly, helpful and informative. Most of the people who are active members enjoy helping others find answers to their problems, and many of them run other communities, forums, and websites.

The fact that you respond angrily to a very simple suggestion like "respond to comments" (a pretty basic aspect of Live Journal, and one which helps other users having a similar problem figure out the solution) indicates that the problem might not be the community but you. It might behoove you to sit back and lurk for a bit to get a feel for this community in particular and Live Journal in general, to see how it works and what normal protocol is.

And I generally stick my Downloads folder (or anything I'm pulling out of that folder) on my desktop, where I can find it easily. If I'm sorting through a lot of content, I'll make a folder labeled "Sims 2 stuff" or something just to keep it all together.

I can't find anything online that talks about how to use the antique camera, but long ago when I messed with it, I remember getting the same situation you do. I don't think it's a bug; I think it may work differently than the "paint a portrait" method. Have you looked at the camera itself to see what the pictures look like? I believe you can sell even the failed pix for money.

It may be that you actually have to place the camera in front of the people or scene you want to take pictures of. I couldn't swear to it, though, since it's been so long since I used it.

Nah, it's similar to painting a still life, the framework pops up and you hit C to set the picture. The only difference is that the game pauses for the still life painting framework, but does not for the camera, so you have to pause it yourself once the framework pops up.

Ah, okay. It's honestly been years since I used the antique camera in-game. I don't even remember which career it comes with, except it's a Uni one. Thanks for the tip!

It comes with the Artist career.

Firstly, chill.

Secondly, when you instruct your sim to take a picture using the camera, what happens? Do they go to the camera and look through the viewfinder? Or do they ignore it totally?

I agree with the first comment. Get rid of your downloads for now, that should always be the first step.

If it works without downloads, you know it's a downlad problem and have to go through via the 50/50 method to find out what exactly is causing it.

They are not trying to be mean to you, they are trying to let you know the right way to do things. How would someone know that they are doing something wrong, if no one tells them or they don't read otherwise?

When you have a game issue, please try to use this help wizard first:
It would help us a lot to know what Expansions you have and any hacks that you may have installed. When posting a question, please try to remember to include a list of your expansions and any hacks that you have.

Also, have you been installing houses and things? Because you could accidentally get a hack without knowing, some hacks will cause many problems if you have two that are trying to modify the same thing, or if it's meant for a different expansion then what you have. If you have windows, you should get Clean installer, that way you will have more control over what goes into your game, because you will be able to see each file that comes with a house.
