Question about sims etiquette

Okay, there's a good possibility that this is a really dumb question, but everyone has been so helpful last time...

I have only recently started downloading sims from other people. I usually make my own, but I found some I really liked. Naturally, I'll always credit the creator if I use their sims; that's a given. But I'd like to play them with different names and personalities. Is that considered rude? Or is that a pretty okay thing to do? Most creators say that you can pretty much use their sims for whatever, but does this include renaming them, etc.?

I have honestly always wondered that, but never dealt with it before. And like I said, sorry for the possible dumbness.

Usually a person's sim download page will say, as you stated, you can do whatever with them, and that would include renaming and most definitely changing personalities. I don't think many, if anyone, would care about changing their personality.

Now if you get the sim from Pixel_Trade and plan to do a story/legacy on a blog, then credit and a note about the name change should be OK.

ETA: The main thing is not to change the face sculpts, obviously, as that's the sim. LOL!

Ah, okay then! For some reason I was bothered about the name change, say, if I take a spare from X legacy and use them as a different character. But I would always credit the creator, and of course point out what sim it was originally. I just didn't want to offend anyone.

Haha, yeah, obviously. XD

I should hope so! I've gotten several sims and renamed them, changed their clothes, skin tones, and hair. Swapped out character traits (ie: birth sign, turn ons, turn offs) A few, I've even switch gender. As long as you give credit to the original creator,do as you wish with them. :)

Yeah, it seems to be fine! Phew. I haven't even posted anything anywhere, and I would never take credit for a sim I didn't make, but I wasn't sure about the other stuff. But that seems to not be an issue. :)

Yes, you can generally change everything about them, but if you plan on using them in stories you post, it would be polite to note where the sim came from and possibly what name they may have had from that creator. Just don't claim you made the sim, if you tweak the sim, the tweaks are your doing but the other person still made the sim.

Oh, that's fine then! I would never pass off a sim I didn't make as my own. I was merely afraid that in case I do post something (I'm dabbling in several stories) it'd be super-awkward when someone sees their sim with a different name, even if I credit. ^^* But I guess I was too worried about it.

do whatever you want as long as you don't upload them.
