Addon Recs

I've been thinking about delving back into Sims 2 again and was thinking I'd really like to try some new stuff. I've never downloaded any mods or any type of custom content before, so I'm totally new to that. But I have seen a lot of awesome hair, clothes, and new things like animals in a lot of the legacy stories on here and I'd really like to get some of that in my game.

So does anyone have any mods or good download sites (with good instructions please!) for a noob to such things like me? Anything you can't imagine playing without is good too :)

I have all the expansions if that makes a difference.

The main thing is knowing how to prevent hood and game corruption and using the mods that fixed things EA never bothered to fix. http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Game_guide:Avoiding_corruption

After installing make sure to patch. MTS hosts the patches now the exchange is gone. http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Patching_Your_Game

Make your object files read only.http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Making_your_Objects.package_file_Read-Only

Next would be the fixes that stop the game blowing up.
No corrupt death http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=2368.0
No unlink on delete http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=2083.0
Creature Fixes (if you play vampires at all) http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=1482.0
The Bat Box http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=72.0

Other fixes or very useful mods
Boiling Oil's No Sim Loaded http://www.leefish.nl/mybb/thread-1665.html Burns tokens and prevents the Super Duper Hug. (That is Maxis code which should remain hidden but can manifest in certain conditions and is very annoying and will infect lots and go with any load uploaded with it in the game)

The no regen mods if you want to keep townies, NPC's, dormies under control. http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/ That contains all of Pescados mods.

The sim blender for doing a range of things. http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?topic=20.0

Once you have all of that sorted then I would look into mods for annoyances or game play. Since I have about 200 I'm not going to list all of those. Play and jot down what you want modded out and there is a good bet it can be done.
Many people use ACR: http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?topic=19.0 I don't, but it's a must have for a lot of people.
There are mods for just about everything.

The best places to get cc from is MTS, GOS and Trapping Crushes. You can quickly find creators that you like off there.

Farm animals are mostly by Rebeka at Affinity sims. Be warned if you install them they must stay as they create an NPC file. Pulling them will cause hood corruption. Any piece of cc that moves around should be suspected of creating an NPC file. Many are based on the base game remote control car which is an NPC. Strange, but it is.
I use them but find them a little buggy. The sheep is quite annoying as it makes a lot of noise. Too many animals will also slow your lot to a crawl.

That's a start on a really huge topic.

Rebecah over at Affinity Sims has some great animals that move around you can ride them, milk the cows and goats, get wool from the sheep and pigs and chickens...gather eggs...if you want to butcher them the animals walk over to the butcher table and then you have a meal it is funny...there are a lot of mods and a lot of stuff that Rececah made for toddlers...I love her stuff...

As an custom content addict my first tip is to make up your mind about a folder structure/organization system so you'll be able to keep track of the things you install. There's a great thread over at Garden of Shadows where people show how they have it set up. I've also released a folder structure I've been using, rather extreme but you can download it here. :)

I'd also like to recommend the sims2default database here, since the cc I couldn't do without is skin and eye defaults. :) Other than that I suggest you take a look at MTS help sections for learning what to do and what not to do with your game. They have downloading custom content tutorials here for example.

When you feel like you've got the hang of downloading and putting stuff into your game I'd recommend Trappingcrushes for finding new awesome stuff to download. It's one of the best finds-sites in my opinion. :)

joandsarah I am sorry I didn't read the last paragraph of yours and didn't see that you had Affinity Sims and Rebecah's animals on there...oh believe me my sheep float on their sides so I got tired of them and don't use them lol...the cows and goats for milk are good, the chickens for eggs and meat, and of course the pigs they come in handy when you need a little bit of cash lol...you sell one pig and 5 more are born..same with the chickens if you don't gather all the eggs then you have a dozen chicks running around lol...
